Huron County Household Hazardous Waste Day-July 15, 2023

The County of Huron 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Program will be held on:
Date: Saturday, July 15, 2023
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Location: Works Yard, 445 Josephine St Wingham (North Huron) 

Get Rid of your Household Hazardous Waste, including: 

  • Battery acids
  • Pesticides
  • Gasoline
  • Pool chemicals
  • Drain cleaners
  • Rat poison
  • BBQ starter
  • Ammonia
  • Oven cleaners
  • Cleaning Fluids
  • Paint/solvents
  • Bleach 

No PCB’s, commercial, infectious or radioactive wastes will be accepted.

Landfill Site Hours as of October 1, 2021

At the Regular Council meeting on August 23, 2021, Council approved the optimization of the South Huron Landfill Site effective

October 1, 2021 which will adjust landfill operation hours as follows:

  • Monday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday: Closed
  • Thursday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Saturday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Sunday: Closed

 

Disposal of Masks 

Please bag masks and other biomedical waste and place into garbage bins.

They are not recyclable material.

About the South Huron Landfill 

Open to residents and businesses of the municipality, the South Huron Landfill is located at 71230 Ausable Line - on the northeast corner of Highway 83/ Dashwood Road. The landfill accepts many kinds of waste material.

The public is reminded that physical distancing safety measures remain in place and that cash will not be accepted. The South Huron Landfill will be open:

In every home there are products that need special care. You will recognize them by warning signs.
The County of Huron Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program is an opportunity for you to clear potentially dangerous wastes out of your home and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner, at no cost to you. 
The Huron County HHW Depot at the Mid-Huron Landfill in Holmesville (37506A Huron Rd) is open year-round Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am to 12:30pm and FREE to all County Residents.  

Curbside Garbage and Recycling Pickup Services

All residents of South Huron are reminded to remove their garbage and recycling receptacles from the curb no later than 12 hours after curbside pickup has been completed. 

We offer weekly curbside garbage and recycling pickup for residents based on where they live.

  • Tuesday pickup includes Corbett, Dashwood, Greenway, Shipka, Mt. Carmel and Lakeshore area
  • Friday pickup includes Exeter, Centralia, Crediton, Huron Park, Kirkton, Woodham and area

The municipality's garbage and recycling collection and processing provider is the Bluewater Recycling Association (BRA). BRA is a rural non-profit organization that develops and maintains facilities on behalf of the municipal sector.

Garbage and recycling bin fees are charged quarterly on utility bills according to the following rates:

Container Service Fees
Recycling Bins (65 gallon and 95 gallon) $47.68 per year
Garbage Bins, Small (35 gallon) $101.08 per year per bin
Garbage Bins, Medium (65 gallon) $126.50 per year per bin
Garbage Bins, Large ( 95 gallon) $164.35 per year per bin

If you have a lost or damaged bin, or would like to request a different size you may report it online or contact us or 519-235-0310 ext. 230.

If you would like to report a missed collection please report it online directly to BRA.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous materials can be dangerous to people as well as the environment. Be sure to bring your hazardous waste products to the proper depot! 

The County of Huron operates the Household Hazardous Waste Program, which offers disposal hazardous waste disposal services at the Mid-Huron Recycling Centre free of charge to residents of Huron County. The Huron County HHW Depot at the Mid-Huron Landfill in Holmesville (37506A Huron Road, Holmesville, Ontario) is open year-round Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am to 12:30pm and FREE to all County Residents. For more information, contact the Mid-Huron Recycling Centre at 519-482-7668.
