South Huron lowers Town Hall flag for Jack Riddell, former Ontario Minister of Agriculture

The South Huron Town Hall flag has been lowered to pay tribute to The Honourable John (Jack) Keith Riddell of Exeter who passed away on January 23, 2024.

Having had a diverse career as an educator, 4-H leader, auctioneer, and farmer, he is best known for his work as a long-time member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing Huron from 1973 to 1990. He served as Minister of Agriculture from June, 1985 to August, 1989 and was inducted into the Ontario Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2017.

"A inspiring leader his entire life, Jack's contribution to our local community and the broader agriculture sector in Ontario is immeasurable," said Mayor George Finch.

His legacy lives on through many enduring local initiatives, not the least of which being the Jack Riddell Family Fund, which is part of the South Huron Community Fund (Sunset Community Foundation) that provides an annual scholarship to a student of the Avon Maitland District School Board pursuing agricultural studies in Canada.
