User Fee & Revenue Generation Study

The Municipality of South Huron has engaged Hemson Consulting Ltd. to complete a comprehensive review and analysis of municipal user fees. This study includes a review of fees imposed under authority of the Planning ActBuilding Code Act and Municipal Act such as fees associated with development as well as licensing and permit fees associated with fire, recreation and administration services.

Climate Change Adaptation Strategy

In 2020, the Municipality of South Huron developed South Huron's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy with financial support provided by the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP). The strategy was adopted by South Huron Council on September 8, 2020.

Development Charges

The Municipality of South Huron passed a municipal-wide Development Charges By-Law which came into effect on March 17, 2020. 

Community Safety and Well Being for Huron County

Community Safety and Well-Being Plan for Huron County

The Huron County Community Safety and Well Being Plan was prepared in collaboration with all 9 lower-tier municipalities in Huron County and a multi-sectoral Advisory Committee that included representatives from social and community organizations, school boards, boards of health, the police service and other local service providers working to protect or enhance safety and well-being.

In June 2021, South Huron formally adopted the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan.

Fire Master Plan

The Municipality of South Huron hired Emergency Management and Training Inc. to conduct a Fire Master Plan. Based on the information received during consultations, a review of supplied documentation, and reference to industry standards and best practices, the Fire Master Plan includes a total of 47 recommendations for consideration by the South Huron Fire Department.

Recreational Renewal Projects

South Huron is committed to providing the best recreational opportunities that are accessible, benefit all age groups and abilities, and are affordable for the entire community. 

The following recreation renewal projects were completed in 2022/2023:

  • South Huron Recreation Centre Renewal Project
  • Stephen Township Arena Renewal Project

Youth Engagement Strategy

In the spring of 2019 the Municipality of South Huron received a grant from the
Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) to create a youth engagement strategy. Based on the community input received during this project, eight strategic items were recommended to make South Huron more youth friendly. The strategy was adopted by South Huron Council on September 8, 2020.
